At least 51 killed at Baghdad markets
A female suicide bomber blew herself up at the main pet market in central Baghdad, killing at least 43 people and wounding 78, police said, the deadliest bombing to strike the capital since a U.S. troop buildup began over the summer.The blast was followed 20 minutes later by a bomb at a bird market in a predominantly Shiite area in southeastern Baghdad that killed at least eight people and wounded 14, police said. The attacks, which occurred shortly before the weekly Islamic call to prayer resounded across the capital, were the latest in a series of violent incidents that have been chipping away at Iraqi confidence over recent security gains.
