Canada reiterates commitment to Afghanistan
On the second anniversary of the Afghanistan Compact, Canada Thursday reiterated its commitment to helping Afghans rebuild their conflict-torn country.
Canada stands behind the Afghan people, who have courageously embraced change, Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier said in a joint statement with National Defence Minister Peter MacKay and Minister of International Development Beverley J Oda.
Canada's efforts in Afghanistan continued to be guided by the Afghan Compact - a tool that ensures that forward momentum is sustained. This five-year agreement between the UN, the international community and the Afghan government maps the countrys road to recovery in three key areas - security, governance and development.
