Two Thai rangers killed in attack on army post
Suspected Islamic terrorists separatists attacked an army post at a primary school in Thailand`s Muslim-majority south today, killing two teenage rangers in an hour-long gun battle, police said. The two rangers, both Muslims, died when at least 10 terrorists militants raided the base overnight on the campus of the school in Narathiwat, a province on the border with Malaysia. Thai security forces provide armed protection to schools across the region and often escort teachers to and from campus in armed convoys.

More than 20 rangers were based at the post, but no other casualties were reported, police said. The two rangers, both 19, were killed in the first shots fired during the attack, police said further.

Meanwhile, a 100-strong combined force of policemen and soldiers raided an area in Cho Ai Rong district and detained three insurgent suspects. The police seized explosive devices, a firearm and some cartridges.
