U.S. Marine arrested over alleged rape of girl in Okinawa released
Prosecutors released on Friday a U.S. Marine staff sergeant who was arrested on suspicion of raping a local junior high school girl in Okinawa Prefecture in February. Tyrone Hadnott, 38, had been detained since Okinawa police arrested him for allegedly raping the girl in a car parked on a street in the town of Chatan around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 10. Hadnott was released because prosecutors decided not to press charges as the girl dropped the accusation against him. The incident sparked an uproar among local residents in the southernmost Japanese prefecture who had already resented the heavy presence of U.S. forces as well as a spate of crimes committed by U.S. soldiers.
