MMA refuses to support PPP in Balochistan
The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has refused to support the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominee for the office of Balochistan chief minister, sources told Daily Times on Thursday.
The MMA emerged as the second largest grouping in the Balochistan Assembly after the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) in the February 18 polls. The religious alliance has eight seats; the PML-Q 21 seats; the PPP eight seats; and the Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) six seats in the provincial assembly.
The sources said that the PPPs Syed Khursheed Shah met Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani of the MMA on Wednesday night at Parliament Lodges and sought their support for Aslam Raisani for the office of Balochistan CM.
The MMA leaders declined Shahs request and asked him to explore other options for any bilateral cooperation in the province, the sources said, adding that the MMA was in contact with the PML-Q and the BNP-A to form a coalition government in Balochistan.
