Imam Masood convicted of fraud
A United States federal court in Boston on Monday convicted Imam Muhammad Masood, who pleaded guilty to five counts of an indictment charging him with fraud and misuse of immigration documents, as well as making false statements to Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Sentencing will take place on May 22 and could include imprisonment for each of the counts charging fraud and misuse of documents required by the immigration laws, and five yearsÂ’ imprisonment for the charges of false statements and false statements relating to the registry of aliens, to be followed by three years of supervised release, up to a $250,000 fine and a mandatory special assessment of $100 on each charge.

Imam Masood, who headed an Islamic Centre and mosque in Sharon, Massachusetts, is the brother of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, founder of the banned Lashkar-e-Tayyaba. He has said that he has nothing to do with his brother nor does he share his views.
