Village chief killed by Thai terrorists
One local official died and one was wounded as two assistant village heads were attacked by suspected terrorists insurgents, one in Pattani Tuesday morning, the other in Narathiwat on Monday night. Assistant village head Ayu Yama was gunned down in Pattani's Saiburi district. Ayu and his wife were travelling home by motorcycle when he was attacked. Mr. Ayu died at the scene while his wife was uninjured.

Meanwhile, in Narathiwat's Bacho district, assistant village head Adulkarim Naningpeng was ambushed on Monday night, wounded and sent to hospital. Police found his bullet-riddled car and some spent bullet casings at the scene. The authorities believe he was attacked by presumed terrorists insurgents as he had cooperated to convince persons involved with the jihad insurgency to turn themselves in to the police.
