Yemen: Al-Qaeda behind attack against Americans
 (AKI) - An al-Qaeda cell has claimed responsibility for Sunday's rocket attack which targeted US oil experts in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. According to a report on the ArabTV network Al-Jazeera, Yemeni government sources said that the terrorists had released a statement on the Internet claiming responsibility for the attack against the homes of the Americans in the al-Falal suburb of Sanaa. Yemeni security sources said that there were no reports of casualties from the attacks. The terrorists said that the attack came two days after the arrest of one of their members, Abdullah al-Raimi. Monday's statement was not posted on any jihadi websites normally used by al-Qaeda, such as the site that claimed responsibility for last month's attack against the US embassy in Yemen. Reports say that the three missiles struck the villas of US employees of the Yemen-owned Safer oil company, formerly known as Hunt Oil. Hunt Oil was founded in Texas in 1934 and the company has agreements with the government of Yemen to develop liquefied natural gas and offshore oil supplies. Posted by: Fred 2008-04-08 |
