Clashes close highway near Tikrit
(VOI)- Security authorities on Thursday closed the highway linking Baghdad to Mosul, northern Iraq, after police forces clashed with gunmen hiding in a truck near Tikrit, a security source said.
“Gunmen hiding in a truck attacked police personnel on the highway linking Baghdad to Mosul. The police responded and killed 14 gunmen.”
“Gunmen hiding in a truck attacked police personnel on the highway linking Baghdad to Mosul and passing through Tikrit,” the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI). “The police guarding the highway responded and killed 14 gunmen,” he said.

The source added that a gunman detonated explosives strapped to his body near the police forces, wounding two cops.” Following the incident, the source said, the security authorities closed the highway until further notice. A local police source told VOI that the truck was coming from Mosul, where the Iraqi troops were carrying out a military operation against armed groups.
