Peace returns to Tripoli after deadly sectarian clashes
An uneasy calm reigns in Lebanons second largest city, Tripoli, after two days of sectarian violence which killed at least nine people. Early this morning, witnesses say soldiers and policemen in armoured troop carriers entered the outskirts of the northern city scene of fighting between Sunni Muslim government supporters and Alawite gunmen close to the Hezbollah-led opposition.The fighting has dealt a serious blow to hopes of a deal to form a national unity government after Lebanon last month ended its long-running political crisis.
