Car lot blast kills 5 in Kirkuk
A deadly explosion at a car dealership in Iraq's northern city of Kirkuk has killed at least five people and wounded nine others. The blast struck a car market in the evening, a police source said, adding it was not yet clear whether the attack was caused by a suicide bombing or explosives placed there.
The explosion came nearly one month after a suicide bombing hit Kurdish demonstrators in Kirkuk on July 28, leaving more than 20 people dead and about 200 injured.
Insurgents have regularly launched attacks in oil-rich Kirkuk, a city claimed by both Arab and Iraqi Kurds. The Kurds have been trying to merge the city into the neighboring Kurdish autonomous region, a decision opposed by other Iraqis.
