Five bombs defused in Baghdad
(AKI) - Anti-bomb squads defused five bombs in two separate areas of Baghdad, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. "Anti-bomb squad defused three explosive charges in the Zaiyouna region in eastern Baghdad and found ammunitions and a mortar shell in the same area," the ministry said in a statement published by the news agency, Voices of Iraq.
The bomb squad's breakthrough came after 28 people were killed and 45 others were wounded in a suicide bomb attack in the Iraqi province of Diyala on Tuesday. The bomber attacked a line of police recruits in the northwestern town of Jalawlah, just before midday local time.
Tuesday's bombing was the latest in a series of attacks, launched mainly by Sunni Islamists in Diyala, which is one of the most dangerous regions in Iraq.
