Jammu encounter: All three militants killed; 3 hostages dead
JAMMU: Security forces on Wednesday killed the last of the three terrorists holed up in the residential building in Chinore in a crowded area on the city's outskirts, 20 km from the international border, ending a 19-hour hostage drama and gunbattle. Earlier on Wednesday morning, terror struck Jammu when terrorists suspected to have infiltrated from Pakistan killed four persons including an Army officer.
In a day-long gunbattle that stretched till night, the security forces killed all three terrorists. Three hostages were killed, all four children and their mother were rescued. IGP Kuldip Khoda said the second terrorist was killed while he was trying to escape under the cover of darkness.
Police said two civilians, a jawan identified as Havildar Vijay Kumar and a JCO Naik Subedar V V K Paarkashan were killed by the terrorists. Six people were also injured. Earlier reports said three civilians were killed. The terrorists, who were suspected by police to be the same people who had infiltrated across the border under a cover of firing by Pakistani forces, first came in a goods carrier and attacked an Army checkpost in the Domana-Mishriwala area on Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch highway on Wednesday morning.
