Relatives ransack hospital after youth dies
CHANDRAPUR: Incenced over the death of a young boy, his relatives thrashed a doctor and ransacked his hospital in Warora on Friday night.
As per details, Shwetal Narde (19) from Ram Mandir ward, reportedly suffering from high fever and queasiness, was admitted at Dr Pradeep Parates hospital on Thursday night. After tests, the patient was diagnosed to be suffering from jaundice.
Dr Parate directed Nardes family members to take him to Nagpur or Sevagram for emergency treatment by 5 pm. However, they did not comply with the advice and Narde breathed his last around 9 pm.
Irked over the death, around 20 persons ,mostly relatives of the deceased, ransacked the hospital and thrashed Dr Parate. Earlier, Shobha Narde, mother of the deceased, lodged a complaint with Warora police station alleging medical negligence. In a counter complaint filed by Dr Parate, he has estimated loss of Rs 16,000.
The post-mortem was performed by doctors from Chandrapur civil hospital under camera. Heavy police force was deployed at sub-district hospital, Warora as a huge mob had gathered there while post-mortem was underway.
Similar incident in Akola: The brother of a woman and other relatives ransacked the district hospital for women in Akola on Friday night following the death of a newborn due to alleged negligence of the doctor. Usha Deshmukh of Bhod village gave birth to a baby boy on September 30 at the hospital.
However, the infant died on Friday evening. Sachin Deshmukh, the maternal uncle of the infant, his relative and colleagues, vented their anger against the doctor and broke the furnitures and window panes. Resident medical officer Dr R H Khatri was badly beaten up by the relatives of the dead infant. The relatives were already informed about the deteriorating health of the newborn and doctors attending took care but unfortunately the infant died, hospital sources said. tnn
