Iran aiming to perfect judicial system
Iranian top judge, Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Shahroudi, says judicial security is a precondition for a sound legal system in the country. Iran's judiciary chief said on Thursday that popular participation, promotion of culture, and creating the superstructure of a modern judicial system are all vital in helping to attain an improved judicial system. The three major legal systems of the world consist of civil law, common law and religious law. However, each country often develops variations on each system or incorporates many other features into the system. The pivot of Iran's judicial system is Islamic law he said. Shahroudi also called on 'all organizations' to work together to provide security for the society and put a damper on criminal activities. "People should be informed about their civil and economic rights by the mass media and the judicial system," underscored the judiciary chief. In a comment in June, Shahroudi said that many countries are 'envious' of Iran's progress in the judicial arena, especially the attention it pays to finding justice. He said certain characteristics of the Islamic Republic's judicial system make Iran's judicial policies 'exemplary' throughout the world. Addressing a group of judicial officials in Tehran, Shahroudi added that the Islamic Republic's judicial system is so comprehensive that some nations have sought Iran's assistance in establishing a judicial system of their own along similar lines.
