US hints at lifting travel, economic sanctions on Libya
The United States said on yesterday that it may soon allow US citizens to visit Libya using American passports and to spend money there, lifting some of the many US economic sanctions on Tripoli to reflect its decision to give up weapons of mass destruction. A statement issued by the US embassy in London said Libya and the US discussed the possibility of establishing a small diplomatic presence in each otherâs capitals. US, Libyan and British officials met in London to take stock of Libyaâs December 19 announcement that it had decided to give up weapons of mass destruction.
