Villager killed in southern Thailand, marking fifth year of jihad
An unidentified gunman killed a man and wounded his wife in a shooting believed linked to the southern unrest, which marks five years on Sunday. Suwat Longsamut was shot in the neck while he was drove his motorcycle, and his wife, riding as his passenger, was shot in her shoulder and was wounded. He died at the scene but she was rushed to hospital, together with their two-year-old nephew who was unscathed. The insurgency erupted on Jan 4, 2004, when militants raided a southern army base, killing four soldiers and collecting quantities of weapons and ammunition. Posted by: ryuge 2009-01-04 |
