Al Assad seeks better US relations
Syrian President Bashar Al Assad told a visiting US delegation on Saturday that he wants a "constructive" dialogue with Washington after years of hostility, the official Sana news agency reported.Al Assad told Congressman Adam Smith of the "importance of the opening of a positive and constructive dialogue between Syria and the United States based on common interests and mutual respect," it said. Sana said members of the US delegation in turn highlighted "Syria's important role in the Middle East and the desire of the new adminstration to develop American-Syrian relations for the benefit of regional stability."
