Threats Close Thai Schools in Muslim Area
Thailand will close most of the 900 schools in the largely Muslim south for the rest of this week because of threats from unidentified groups, education officials said Wednesday. Shortly after the announcement, another policeman was critically wounded by two shots in the head in Pattani Province, which borders Malaysia, the police said. A senior Education Ministry official said a school in Narathiwat Province closed Tuesday after it received a letter threatening to plant a bomb there.
