Putin dismisses entire government
2004 is going to be a turbulent year ....The Russian president Vladimir Putin has announced that he is dismissing his government, less than three weeks before presidential elections. Vladimir Putin: plans to set out policy In a televised address, he told Russians: "In line with article 117 of the Russian Constitution, I have decided to dismiss the government. This decision is not linked to the governmentâs achievements, which on the whole I consider satisfactory. This is linked to my wish to set out my position on what the countryâs course will be after March 14, 2004." He has appointed deputy prime minister Viktor Khristenko as acting prime minister to replace the former premier Mikhail Kasyanov, according to the Kremlin press service.
