Minn. terror suspect pleads guilty
A terror suspect held in solitary confinement for more than five years has struck a deal with the U.S. government and pleaded guilty to aiding al-Qaeda.

Mohammed Abdullah Warsame, a 35-year-old Canadian citizen who was born in Somalia, will be sentenced July 9 for admitting he conspired to provide support to a terrorist organization. In exchange, the government will drop four other charges, including providing support to a terrorist organization and lying to the FBI.

Warsame's lawyers say he has spent more time in prison awaiting trial than anyone in U.S. history. He was arrested in 2003 in Minneapolis, where he lived as a college student.

The government accused him of training at military camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan, attending lectures by Osama Bin Laden and teaching English to al-Qaeda operatives. He said he was intrigued by the "utopian" society he had heard existed in Afghanistan.

Prosecutors want Warsame to serve 12œ years in prison; his lawyers want him released because of his time served.
