Scotland denies media reports of Lockerbie bomber release
[Maghrebia] Scottish officials on Wednesday (August 12th) denied media reports that terminally-ill Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi would definitely be returned to Libya by the start of Ramadan next Friday, international press reported. The Scottish government decision regarding al-Megrahi's deportation to Libya will reportedly be announced next week. Al-Megrahi, who is serving a minimum term of 27 years in a Scottish prison for the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over the village of Lockerbie, was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. Libya requested his release on compassionate grounds.
