Indonesia thinking about nuclear power
Conrad of The Gweilo Diaries says it so much better than I...
If terrorism, SARS, civil unrest, bird flu and dengu fever arenât sufficient to scare the average Indonesian shitless, hereâs news that the regionâs most inept and corrupt government is considering building a nuclear power plant on the earthquake prone main island of Java. Should they proceed, the absolute best one can hope for is that, like the Philippines, Indonesia ends up with an extraordinarily expensive, inoperative, white elephant. The worst, and by no means unlikely outcome, would be the irradiation of all of southeast Asia. Like bourbon and orange juice, Indonesians and nuclear fission are not a happy combination.
