Pakistan army to reopen Swat valley
[Iran Press TV Latest] A top army commander hints that Pakistan will soon open its northwestern Swat valley to visitors despite the fragile law and order situation across the troubled region. The commander of the Pakistani forces in Swat told reporters in the region's main town of Mingora that the army has largely cleared the valley and its surrounding districts. "The operation has been a complete success and we plan to open the valley to local tourists within a month," Major-General Ashfaq Nadeem was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying. This is while a military statement said that at least 17 insurgents were killed in several clashes in the latest violence across the valley.
