In India, Maoists kill 17 policemen in ambush
In their latest wave of attacks, Maoist rebels in India have killed 17 security personnel in the troubled west of the country. Police sources said at least 150 Maoists attacked the security forces in forests in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra State on Thursday.
"One senior officer and 16 constables have died," police inspector S.D. Mundhe was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying.
The Maoist insurgency has spread to twenty states and claimed more than 600 lives since the beginning of the year.
