Tiger kills fisherman, 2 others abducted by pirates
A fisherman was killed and another injured seriously by a Royal Bengal tiger in Atharobeki canal in the Sundarbans on Saturday. The dead was identified as Abdur Rahman, 24, son of Nazrul Gazi of Chakbara village. Injured Morshed Gazi, 32, of the same village was shifted to Satkhira hospital in a critical condition. Quoting eye-witnesses police said three fishermen went to the Sundarbans after taking permission from the Forest Department on Saturday morning. As soon as they reached the canal by a boat, a Royal Bengal swooped on Morshed. When Abdur Rahman came to his rescue with a bamboo stick the tiger threw away Morshed and attacked Rahman and killed him in deep forest. The body is yet to be rescued.
A few teeth, some toenails, maybe...
In another incident on the day, two fishermen were abducted by ’pirates belonging to Motableb Bahini’ from Kalichchar canal in the world’s largest mangrove forest. They were identified as Aksedur Rahman and Ijjat Ali. The fishermen were reportedly held hostage at a place near Pashurtala near the Indian border for payment of ransom. Quoting local people, police said taking permission from the Forest Department 11 fishermen went to the Sundarbans on Thursday night. No sooner had they reached Kalichchar canal by boats an organised gang of pirates belonging to Motaleb Bahini attacked them. They held hostage the two fishermen for ransom. Today has been set the dead line for payment of ransom money, otherwise, the hostages will be killed, according to escaped fishermen.
