Kabul mayor gets four years in jug
[Iran Press TV Latest] An Afghan court has sentenced the mayor of Kabul to four years in prison on corruption charges -- the first major anti-corruption move by President Hamid Karzai.
The court issued a warrant for the arrest of Mir Abdul Ahad Sahebi in absentia on Monday.
Sahebi was found guilty of misappropriation of more than $16,000 dollars of public money. The court has ordered the mayor to return the money and removed him from his post.
It was the first high-profile corruption conviction for an Afghan official since President Karzai was sworn in for a second five year term.
