Nuggets from the Urdu press
Out of Ismail Khan’s jail
According to Khabrain, 21 Pakistanis were rescued from the personal jail of Ismail Khan, the warlord of Herat whom the Taliban had kept imprisoned till he broke out of it. Each Pakistani had to pay Rs 5 lakh. Most of the Pakistanis were from Lahore. Warlords in Afghanistan have been buying and selling Pakistani jihadis to each other in the hope of finally getting a good price from their families in Pakistan.

Jinns kill young man
According to Nawa-e-Waqt, in Mamun Kanjan near Lahore jinns living in a locality killed a young man after he returned from playing football. He was found hanged in his room which was locked both from the inside as well as outside. One year ago the same house was burned by the jinns. Lately a dog was killed and the leg of a buffalo was also shattered. The people of Mamu Kanjan were greatly concerned and were hiring special exorcists for taming the wicked non-Muslim jinns.

Dr Israr’s recipe against sectarianism
Religious scholar Dr Israr Ahmad wrote in Nawa-e-Waqt that if Pakistan was to survive then the Shia-Sunni rift must be removed and the solution lay in what Iran had done. Iran had declared the fiqh of the dominant Muslim population as official and all Muslims who were non-Shia must submit to the legal order created by the Shia fiqh. He said Pakistan must remove two fiqhs from the statute book and declare Hanafi as the only law to which all Shias must submit. He proposed that Shias may be allowed to collect their own zakat.
