US to give $55 million for Waziristan: Patterson
[Dawn] US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne W. Patterson announced that the US Government will support $55 million for infrastructure, rehabilitation and construction program in South Waziristan. In her remarks, she said that the US is committed to support directly the government of Pakistan. The $55 million earmarked for South Waziristan will be given directly to the FATA Secretariat to rebuild roads, develop water infrastructure, and improve power systems. The US ambassador says that this support is part of a strategic agreement between the United States and Pakistan. She also said her government is committed to its support for Pakistan and praised the people of South Waziristan for their grit and detrmination which have helped the military and civilian agencies force militants to retreat.
