Rep. Brown to retire
Republican Rep. Henry Brown Jr. (S.C.) is set to announce on Monday that he will not seek reelection in 2010 .The announcement is expected at an afternoon press conference in his home district. Brown won a closer-than-expected reelection race in 2008 and was pitted against a number of primary challengers this year. Brown becomes the second Republican incumbent to bow out in recent days, joining Rep. George Radanovich (Calif.). In both cases, Republicans will likely be favored, but Democrats could have a chance. Brown underperformed Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) numbers in the district while running against wealthy businesswoman Linda Ketner. McCain got 56 percent, Brown 52. Those already running on the Republican side include Carroll "Tumpy" Campbell, the son of a former governor. Paul Thurmond, the son of former Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.), may also run.
