Deal reached on financial aid to Greece
[Iran Press TV Latest] While the European Union member states meet in Brussels, France and Germany have reached a deal on a financing plan to help debt-ridden Greece. Officials in Brussels say the aid package, which includes help from the International Monetary Fund, will total EUR 23 billion. "The plan meets our requirements fully ... we agree," Greek government spokesperson George Petalotis told reporters in Brussels on Thursday. When asked if all euro zone countries were ready to sign up to the agreement, Petalotis said, "Yes, they have agreed." News of the deal broke as leaders of the 27-member block have gathered for a two-day summit in Brussels. So far, the euro zone has avoided seeking an IMF loan for Greece as it prefers a European solution to the problem in order to maintain global confidence in the euro.
