Gunmen kill engineer in eastern Afghanistan
[Asharq al-Aswat] Gunmen opened fire on a group of engineers inspecting a high school in Afghanistan's eastern Khost province Friday, killing one of them, local officials said.Three other people were wounded in the attack in the provincial capital, Khost city, acting provincial Gov. Taher Khan Sabari said. The gunmen pulled up in a car to attack the group and then fled to a nearby house, said local police official Gulam Mohammad. A gunbattle with police ensued and was ongoing Friday evening, he said. Khost is located along the volatile border with Pakistan and is a stronghold of the al-Qaida-linked Haqqani network.
