British soldier, 4 civilians killed in Afghanistan
LONDON: A British soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on foot patrol on Sunday in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.

The serviceman, from 3rd Battalion The Rifles, was killed in the Kajaki area of Helmand Province. Around 35 service personnel have been killed this year.

Britain has around 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, largely battling the Taliban in Helmand.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry said that four people – one man and three women – were killed on Sunday evening when their car hit a mine in Ghazni city, also in southern Afghanistan.
