Puerto Rico closer to be the 51st State?
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House is set to vote Thursday on a bill that would let the people of Puerto Rico decide if the island should become America's 51st state.The bill would set up a pair of votes to help determine what changes, if any, people in Puerto Rico would like to make to their government. Puerto Rico currently has "commonwealth status." Those who live there are U.S. citizens, but do not pay federal income taxes, and do not have a voting member of Congress.
