Six Die, Seven Wounded in Violence in Northern Mexico
Six people were killed and seven more were wounded including a police agent, and an abduction in ongoing violence in northern Mexican states.
- Two more young people were shot to death and four were wounded in violence Sunday evening in the Tajito district of Torreón, Coahuila, Mexican news reports say. The violence was in addition to the massacre which took place at a bar in Torreón earlier that day.
An emergency call came in to emergency services at about 1830 hrs concerning a shooting involving a gang of armed men. Authorities said the group were purchasing beer when the armed men attacked them and then fled the scene.
- Three young people were attacked and wounded by assailants using AK-47s early Monday morning, Mexican press reports indicate. The attack took place at 0015 hrs at Villas de Real district of Juarez on Mina San Francisco street when armed assailants aboard a Jeep Cherokee shot the trio.
All three were less than 23 years old, according to press accounts.
- An unidentified man was kidnapped in a grocery store parking lot in Juarez this morning. The abduction took place in the parking lot of Alsup supermarket at the corner of Vallarta and Zaragoza streets in Juarez.
Witnesses say three men in hoods emerged from a running Chevrolet Tahoe, threatened the victim with weapons and then forced him into the Tahoe before speeding away. The victim's wife was shopping during the abduction, and returned to find patrol cars surrounding her vehicle.
- A man was found shot to death in the municipality of Rosales, Chihuahua Monday, say Mexican press accounts. VÃctor Hugo Derma Olivas, 30, was found shot twice with a .40 caliber weapon. Investigators said he was shot once in the head and in the abdomen.
Olivas was found on a dirt road leading to Agua Nueva, Chihuahua.
- Two men were found shot to death shortly after their release from a police detention facility in Parral, Chihuahua early Sunday morning, published Mexican reports say. Guillermo Guadalupe Cortés MartÃnez, 26, and Alberto Cortes López, 27, were neighbors in the Talleres district of Parral, Chihuahua.
The two men were apparently briefly detained earlier for disorderly conduct and public drunk, as well as other offenses. According to the report, shortly after their release, they were confronted by a gang of armed men who attacked the two with AK-47s. Both men died at the scene.
- A man identified as a federal agent was assassinated Saturday evening in the Manuel Valdés district of Juarez near the intersection of Henequén and Justo Sierra streets.
According to witnesses, the agent has enquired about a vehicle blocking traffic, when the driver aimed a weapon at the agent and fired. Another suspect in a second vehicle also shot the agent. Additional federal agents arrived at the scene by helicopter and followed one of the shooter's vehicles and attempted to stop the suspects by shooting at them from the helo.
The name of the agent has yet to be released.
