Taliban seizure of town blamed on US
[Iran Press TV Latest] Afghan officials say the US forces has not done enough to repel a Taliban attack that led to seizure of a town near Afghanistan's eastern border with Pakistan by the militants.
The Taliban took control of Barg-e-Metal in Nuristan Province, following a heavy gun-battle with Afghan security forces on Saturday.
A lawmaker from Nuristan, Hawa Alam Nuristani, told Press TV that all connections with the district have been cut since the morning. Nuristani says the Afghan forces have been under heavy attacks by thousands of Taliban militants in the volatile area for the past two weeks.
She criticized the US-led forces for failing to provide the Afghan police in the region with required military assistance in order to protect the town.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed that 28 policemen were killed, while 8 others have been taken hostage in the lead up to the takeover.
