Bomb blasts kill 10 in Afghanistan
Two separate bomb blasts have hit Afghanistan, leaving 10 Afghan security forces dead amid a surge in militant attacks against foreign and government forces. In the northeastern province of Badakhshan, at least seven policemen were killed after their vehicle hit a roadside bomb on Sunday. Two other officers were injured in the attack, which the authorities blamed on the Taliban. Badakhshan is considered the most peaceful province in Afghanistan. In a separate incident a convoy of Afghan army soldiers hit roadside bomb in the eastern province of Nangarhar, killing three. The developments come just hours after militants attacked a NATO supply convoy in the southern province of Ghazni. US-led forces have failed to secure the war-torn country from the recent wave of violence. The 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan was launched with the official objective of curbing militancy and bringing peace and stability to the war-ravaged country. Nine years on, however, US-led forces have failed to bring security to Afghanistan and civilians continue to pay the price.
