US sues perpetrators of oil spill
[Iran Press TV Latest] US Attorney General Eric Holder says the country has launched civil and criminal investigations to prosecute those responsible for America's worst oil spill.

"We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who has violated the law," Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters in New Orleans on Tuesday and warned, "We will not rest until justice is done."

He added that the criminal probe had begun "some weeks ago."

This comes as US President Barack Obama has also threatened to take legal action against those possibly behind the country's "greatest environmental disaster of its kind."

An estimated 75 million liters of oil has poured into the Gulf of Mexico since the April 20 explosion of an oilrig operated by the energy company, British Petroleum, which led to the death of eleven workers.

So far efforts to stop the oil leak from the fractured deep-sea oil well have failed and caused further environmental fears as the hurricane season draws near.

Efforts to permanently seal the broken pipe will not bear fruit until August, experts say.
