Cattle Rustling on the Rise in Coahuila
Babelfish, etc...
The number of reported cattle theft cases have nearly doubled, according to a Mexican news report published by El Diario de Coahuila, going from 30 cases in two years to more than 50.
José Guadalupe Duran Meza, agent of the Ministerio Público for rural areas in the Southwest Region, said a number of cases are centered in southern areas of Coahuila, such as Saltillo, General Cepeda, and Ramos Arizpe and Arteaga.
"This crime always has existed", Duran Mezawas is quoted as saying.
"...this crime was not denounced as much, after the rural section of the Public Ministry was created is when more cases have arrived, mainly of the cattle rustling, although also they report other types of robberies to us."
Current rules for cattle producers large and small are the producer must make the denunciation before a judge, so the state attorney general can get involved. The Ministerio Público can then go across the countryside looking for missing animals.
Some of the small farm are very remote, but even so, denunciations have grown in the past year, he said.
