Police display body of man killed by his own bomb
[The Nation (Nairobi)] Police in the war-ravaged Somalia capital put on display the body of a man they claimed was a bomber killed by his own deadly cargo.

Police spokesman Col Abdullahi Hassan Barise, said the man was killed at a roadside in Mogadishu.

The bomb exploded, he said, as the suspect tried to plant it in a neighbourhood called Anzilotti in a part of the city controlled by the Transitional Federal Government.

He added that the incident took place at around three in the morning while many people were getting ready to take their late supper before fasting in the day.

No other person injured
The police officer said that apart from the alleged bomber, no other person was injured. He added that security forces arrested two armed men in the vicinity.

"We suspect the men were there to protect the bomb planter," said Col Barise. "They were taken into custody for questioning."

It is not the first time alleged bomb planters in Mogadishu blew themselves up.

Somali security officials often blame al-Shabaab, the Islamist group fighting the TFG, for using inexperienced bomb handlers.

Anzilotti road is normally used by government officials who are believed to have been the targets of the bomb.

Meanwhile, a huge explosion rocked the edge of Bakara market, a stronghold of al Shabab on Sunday night.

Residents in the area believe that a vehicle meant for suicide bombing exploded. But so far no group has given details.
