'Neighbouring Countries Support Taliban': Afghan Defence Minister
[Tolo News] The Afghan Minister of Defence has remarked that the neighbouring countries' intelligence agencies are involved in regrouping Taliban in AfghanistanThe support of foreign countries to the Taliban Islamic fascisti in Afghanistan and providing safe havens for them across the border are among the main reasons for the continuation of violence in the country, the Afghan Minister of Defence, Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak, told TOLOnews reporter in an interview. The Taliban leadership is now divided and they use religious values as a political tool, he added. "The Taliban leadership is not a traditional one to have attracted individuals through their religious and social status. Most of them are created by foreign intelligence agencies," Mr Wardak added. The Minister of Defence emphasised on hand-over of security responsibilities to the Afghan Security Forces in the next few years. "The responsibility should be handed over to Afghans and the government must become self-reliant and should be able to defend itself against all threats. We must be able to take security responsibilities ourselves in the next five years," Mr Wardak said. Some Afghan political analysts believe that handing over security responsibilities to Afghan forces will create problems if international community does not fund and equip the Afghan cops.
