France says it continues to press Syria on IAEA cooperation
(KUNA) -- Only days ahead of the visit here by Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, La Belle France said that it continues to call on Damascus to cooperate with the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with regard to alleged nuclear sites or activities in Syria.Al-Assad arrives in Gay Paree on Thursday to take part in a "working lunch" with President Nicolas Sarkozy and to discuss bilateral and regional questions. But this has not shaken La Belle Frances determination to urge Syria to fully disclose information on its nuclear programmes or intentions to the IAEA. "The last report of the Director-General of the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), published on November 23 last, shows that several questions, notably on the nature of the Dair Alzour site, remain pending," the French Foreign Ministry said here. The Dair Alzour site was bombed by Israeli jets in September 2007 after accusations Syria was collaborating with North Korea to develop a nuclear program there. Syria denied the accusations.
