MEND deny role in bombing
[Bangla Daily Star] Nigeria's biggest thug group denied yesterday involvement in a New Year's Eve bombing that killed four people in Abuja, as police hunted for those responsible for the attack.MEND, which claims to be fighting for a greater share of oil revenues for communities in the Niger Delta, had previously grabbed credit for the last major bombing in the Nigerian capital, when 12 people in a crowd celebrating Independence Day were killed on October 1. "Bombings and attacks carried out by MEND are always preceded by a warning in order to prevent casualties and followed by a statement of claim," the group said in a statement.
