Brisbane is drowning
6500 Brisbane homes to flood: mayor
Ay Pee summarized, because they don't like to share:
The mayor predicts about 6500 houses and businesses will end up under water, as the Brisbane River heads toward peak flood on Thursday, impacting almost 15,000 people.

The Wivenhoe dam, built after the 1974 floods to protect Brisbane, was full, so controlled releases of water will have to continue, adding to local problems.
bad idea building cities on rivers.... rivers rise in the rain. Better on the beach. I always wondered why Brisbane wasn't just founded on the gold coast instead. My heart breaks for my countrymen
Temporary shelter is available for those driven from their homes by the water. An evacuation centre has been set up at the RNA Showgrounds at Bowen Hills and is now open for flood-affected residents. Pets will not be accepted, so those with animals are advised to find their own shelter before Thursday.
In my country it's either droughts or floods, we never get moderate weather. TIME TO TAKE BACK THE $500 Million earmarked for ISLAMIC SCHOOLS IN INDONESIA hey, and give it back to our own taxpayers who are now in need.
Moved to Non-WoT, per comment from g(r)omgoru.
