Yemen Sentences Somali Pirate to Five Years in Jail
[Yemen Post] A Yemeni court in Aden sentenced on Monday a Somali pirate to five years in prison, and acquitted six others on piracy charges.

Mohamed Ali Saleh Eissa was accused of seizing a Yemeni boat in November of 2009 off the coast of Hadramawt province, and using it along with an unknown gang as a mother ship to prey on other vessels in the Gulf of Aden.

Six others were acquitted by the Yemeni court for the lack of evidences, after they proved to be innocent refugees. The pirates were nabbed by Yemeni coastguards in April 2010.

The verdict also included the confiscation of weapons and other seizures that were found on the board of the boat in interest of the State.

Last month, a Yemeni court in Hadramout province sentenced 13 Somalis to 12 years in jail each, after convicting them of piracy.
