DNC Adopts Resolution Urging Speedier End to Afghan War
[Tolo News] President Barack B.O. Obama has adopted a resolution to push the administration towards a speedier withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, reports say.
Members of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) have reportedly passed the resolution at DNC's annual winter meeting in Washington D.C. where hundreds of members from all parts of the United States have gathered to discuss finances, resolutions, and figure out re-election of Democrats in 2012.
Good luck with that, guys. Really. | The resolution adopted Saturday states that "the Democratic Party supports prioritising job creation and a swift withdrawal of US armed forces and military contractors in Afghanistan which must include a significant and sizeable reduction no later than July 2011."
According to the resolution the nearly ten-year-old war has cost more than $100 billion per year, and that 72 percent in the US want to speed up the withdrawal process, arguing that the conflict does not have a military solution.
The US is to begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan in July 2011 and Afghan forces are to undertake full security responsibility by 2014.
Last year Defence Secretary Robert Gates had said the US would start withdrawal of troops in July 2011, but had emphasised that any withdrawals would happen based on conditions on the ground.
