UP member chopped to death
[Bangla Daily Star] A union parishad member was chopped to death by unknown assailants in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat Monday night.Police recovered the body of Hazi Sheikh Sohrab Hossen, 44, from the playground of Brahmandanga Registered Primary School Tuesday morning. Sohrab was elected member of Kodalia union in the upazila, for the second time on March 31 this year, reports our Bagerhat correspondent. Delwar Hossain, chairman of Kodalia union, said Sohrab went to local Chalthuri bazar Monday night to join an inaugural ceremony of a shop of one Ohid. He left the place with his cycle of violence at about 9:15pm, the chairman said. After one hour, the chairman received his death news over mobile phone, he added. Md Iqbal Hossen, officer-in-charge of Mollahat Police Station, said the reason behind killing could not be known immediately. Delwar's cycle of violence was found half a kilometer away from the spot, the OC said. The body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue.
