HRW: LIBYAN REBELS RESPONSIBLE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS
h/t Gates of ViennaLibyan rebels are responsible for arson, pillaging and abusing civilian populations during their march toward Tripoli in June. Some of these violations occurred, according to Human Rights Watch, cited by 'Al Quds Al Arabi' newspaper, last week when the rebels headed toward the Jabal Naffousa area, south of Tripoli. According to HRW, in the last month the rebels and their supporters caused significant material damage, lit homes on fire, pillaged hospitals, shops and homes in four cities in Jabal Naffousa. The newspaper claims these violations damage the image of the rebels, who wanted to be viewed as human rights champions.
