PKK Attack kills 8 Turkish Soldiers
Eight Turkish soldiers have been killed in a suspected attack by Kurdish militants in the district of Cukurca in Hakkari province, close to the Iraqi border.
Officials and Turkish media said the troops died after their vehicle was hit by two remotely-controled roadside bombs, followed by a shoot-out.
Defence Minister Ismet Yilmaz blamed the attack on the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). AFP news agency quoted Doldar Hammo, whom it described as a PKK spokesman, as saying his group had carried out the ambush.
There has been an increase in Kurdish rebel attacks since July.
There is an increase in anti-government attacks across the Muslim world; this is one of the few that does not seem driven by fundamentalist puppeteers - and I'm not so sure the PKK isn't a bunch of useful idiots too.
