Libya: Gaddafi 'seriously ill' as rebels claim advance towards the capital
Libya's embattled leader Muammar Gaddafi is "gravely ill" according to unnamed Libyan and foreign sources cited by pan-Arab daily 'Asharq al-Awasat'. The sources did not provide further details of his medical condition.
According to Asharq al-Awsat, Gaddafi's worsening health prompted him to send the head of his office to Mali and to the Tunisian island of Djerba to meet French and British representatives in a bid to secure his and his family's safety. Rebels claim to be advancing on Gaddafi's stronghold, the Libyan capital Tripoli as the bloody civil war against forces loyal to Gaddafi enters its six month and the Nato-led mission to protect civilians and enforce a no-fly zone over the country continues.
